Educational event on “Fire Safety in Healthcare Institutions” held for the staff of the Central Customs Hospital of the Medical Service of the State Customs Committee

On 9 July 2026, an educational event on “Fire Safety in Healthcare Institutions” was held at the Central Customs Hospital, organized by the State Fire Supervision Service and the State Fire Protection Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the staff of the Central Customs Hospital of the Medical Service of the State Customs Committee.

The event was attended by Shahlar Mirgasim, Deputy Head of the Medical Service of the State Customs Committee; Alibala Alizade, Head of the Public Awareness Sector of the State Fire Supervision Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations; Zaur Aliskandarov, Fire Safety Specialist of the State Customs Committee; as well as department heads and hospital staff.

The main objective of the event was to enhance the knowledge and awareness of the hospital staff regarding emergency response procedures, particularly fire safety measures and appropriate actions in healthcare facilities.

Opening the event, Shahlar Mirgasim, Deputy Head of the Medical Service of the State Customs Committee, emphasized the importance of strict compliance with fire safety regulations in healthcare institutions and the continuous improvement of employees’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills to ensure prompt and effective response in emergency situations. He noted that such educational initiatives contribute to fostering a strong safety culture, minimizing potential risks, and improving the preparedness of both healthcare personnel and the protection of patients.

A presentation was delivered by Alibala Alizade, Head of the Public Awareness Sector of the State Fire Supervision Service. He provided detailed information on fire safety in healthcare institutions, fire prevention measures in hospitals, the proper response of personnel in the event of a fire, the organization of safe and efficient patient evacuation, the importance of keeping evacuation routes unobstructed, maintaining fire alarm systems in working order, and the safe operation of electrical and gas equipment used in medical facilities. He also highlighted the requirements of the Electrical Installation Regulations, stressing that electrical systems and equipment must be installed, operated, and periodically inspected in accordance with established safety standards.

Mr. Alizade emphasized that ensuring fire safety in healthcare institutions is primarily aimed at protecting human life and health, while also safeguarding property. Therefore, every employee must clearly understand their responsibilities during emergencies and strictly adhere to fire safety regulations.

During the event, participants were shown educational videos on fire safety procedures in healthcare institutions.

The event concluded with an interactive discussion, during which participants had the opportunity to ask questions and receive comprehensive answers. It was noted that regular educational activities of this kind play a vital role in improving staff preparedness for emergencies, strengthening rapid decision-making skills, and enhancing the overall safety and security of healthcare institutions.
