On June 19, 2026, another Friday seminar for physicians and residents was organized at the Central Customs Hospital by the Scientific-Practical and Educational Center of the Medical Service Department of the State Customs Committee.

The seminar, dedicated to “The Burden of Atherosclerosis: Challenges for Patients and the Healthcare System — The Experience of Uzbekistan,” focused on discussing the global and regional burden of cardiovascular diseases, the impact of atherosclerosis on healthcare systems, as well as modern strategies for the management of dyslipidemia and the application of lipid-lowering therapy in high-risk patients.

In her presentation, cardiologist of the Central Customs Hospital, Narqiz Alakbarova, noted that cardiovascular diseases continue to be the leading cause of death worldwide. According to the data presented by specialists, an increase in the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases and related mortality is expected by 2050. It was emphasized that the main modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular diseases include high blood pressure, elevated LDL cholesterol, smoking, obesity, diabetes mellitus, and physical inactivity.

Within the seminar, special attention was given to the importance of clinical research in the early detection of atherosclerosis and the timely correction of risk factors. It was also highlighted that familial hypercholesterolemia is one of the significant genetic risk factors leading to the early development of cardiovascular diseases.
